What We Do:
DuBose Custom Homes concentrates its efforts primarily in the four business divisions noted below. If you have a project in mind that does not easily fit into one of the following categories, please contact us and tell us more about it. We carry an unlimited general contractor’s license for both residential and commercial construction and will consider any opportunity to serve you.
New home construction and sales.
We have been very successful as one of Charlotte’s most desirable builders of new homes. We transform empty lots and less-desirable homes into new custom homes for sale. We are diligent in our efforts to carefully research and consider each home’s size, architecture, features, and finishes in order to best complement and enhance its neighborhood surroundings. We have several homes available for purchase, and you can find them here. DuBose Custom Homes works hard to anticipate the needs and desires of future homeowners, even the ones we have not met yet. Remodels, additions, and renovations.
Often, the home you have is the best starting point for the home you want. DuBose Custom Homes has deep expertise in helping you add new space to your home. Whether you are adding a second story, a basement, a screened porch, a new master suite addition, or simply a front porch for curb appeal, we walk you through the entire process. We break it down for you, provide realistic budgets, assist you in the decision-making process, help you value-engineer for savings, and pay as much attention to you as to your home. If more space is less important to you than simply better space, we are also available to renovate your kitchen, bathroom, or any other space that needs a fresh start. DuBose Custom Homes is a member of NARI, the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, and has competed nationally for remodeling excellence awards.
Full service realty.
DuBose Custom Homes also operates a full service real estate brokerage, licensed with the North Carolina Real Estate Commission. Our Values:
While we believe that DuBose Custom Homes offers the best overall value for custom residential construction in Charlotte, there are a few core values to which we are tenaciously committed, setting us apart.
You. Our job is about improving your life, not making it more difficult. How many times have you heard nightmare stories about contractors making their clients’ lives miserable? We have heard them too. At DuBose Custom Homes, we focus first and foremost on our Homeowners – your desires, your dreams, and the ways you live your life. From conception to move-in day and beyond, we remember that while construction can be a complicated process, we do it every day and most clients build or remodel a home only once or twice in a lifetime. We focus on relationship, communication, and responsibility – walking our clients carefully through the many decisions required by each project. Nice, competent people make all the difference. Read some of our testimonials to hear from a few of our satisfied homeowners.
Integrity. Building or remodeling a house is a significant endeavor. You want to partner with someone that you can trust. We understand this and our team is dedicated to helping you get exactly what you’ve dreamed of in a house, while saving you time and money in the process. We keep our homeowners involved in every aspect of construction that they wish to be part of, and keep them constantly updated on budget, schedule, and opportunities to value-engineer aspects of their home. We make challenging aspects of construction like change orders more about relationship than paperwork.
Quality. There is a big difference between value engineering and taking short cuts. We help our homeowners select quality materials, construction methods, and finishes without compromising budgetary constraints. You don’t build a home for the construction process; you build it to live in. You don’t want to worry about how well the materials will endure, what problems might be lurking behind the walls, or what deficiencies may compromise your resale value. Our homes are built solid, exceeding building standards, and utilize the best construction techniques. Finally, we are consistently set apart from our competitors by attention to detail. We recognize that the smallest touches can cause a home to pale or shine. Visit our gallery to see some of our work.
Service. We are easy to reach and available for our homeowners at all times. Our warranty department follows up with homeowners long after they move into their new home, checking to ensure that every aspect of the home looks and operates just as it should. We are quick to respond to problems that may occur, and thorough in our approach to warranty work. When you have a question or a problem about your home, you want your builder to be there for you. Our commitment to you outlasts the construction process. We are also available anytime to look at new projects and provide free, thorough, proposals for new work you may be considering. Simply contact us via phone, fax, or email.

Green Building:
DuBose Custom Homes is experienced with many of the new and emerging green-building products and techniques. Whether your desire is to lower environmental impact, reduce your “carbon footprint,” or just save on monthly utility bills, we can guide you through the numerous green construction options available. We have experienced personnel and subcontractors that can help you find just the right amount of green for your project. Energy Star certification is also available for most new and some fully-remodeled homes. We hire expert contractors who are leaders in the industry on green technology, construction methods, and equipment installation. Some features we have installed in recent projects include:
Open-cell foam insulation. Foam insulation helps significantly with energy conservation, noise pollution, and air quality. The home’s HVAC system can be downsized on account of this insulation’s efficiency, often saving homeowners thousands on equipment cost. This combination alone qualifies a home for Energy Star certification and can reduce homeowner energy bills by up to 50% (source: www.demilecusa.com). The open-cell insulation is applied directly to the roof rafters, instead of the traditional insulation placement in attic floors. This means that attic ductwork runs through insulated space and operates much more efficiently.
Open-cell foam insulation
High-efficiency HVAC systems. High efficiency furnaces cost less to operate than their lower-efficiency counterparts, and require less fuel (electricity or natural gas) to generate the same amount of heat. High SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) air conditioning units increase operating efficiency, lower energy bills, and lessen the impact on the environment.
Conditioned (encapsulated) crawlspaces. Did you know that you can seal, protect, and condition the crawlspace under your house, similar to the house itself? Doing this increases the efficiency of every HVAC duct and hot water pipe travelling through this space because your crawlspace is insulated, dehumidified, heated and cooled, just like your home. It also reduces ground moisture, pests, and mold. Reducing humidity and potential mold in your crawlspace can improve the air quality in your home.
Windows and skylights. Window technology has become very advanced and green in recent years. Low-E double-pane insulated glass provides thermal protection from the outside elements on par with insulated walls. In addition, many homeowners are incorporating more windows, larger windows, and sky lights into their designs in order to increase natural lighting, reducing the need to use electric lighting during daylight hours. Smart window design can also help you reduce heating bills during the cold months.
On-demand gas water heaters. Tankless gas water heaters only heat water as you need it, cutting down on the energy traditionally required to keep a tank of water constantly heated. Because water is heated as you need it, tankless systems provide a hot water supply that never runs out.
Many more green technologies are available. New environmentally friendly products, technologies, and construction techniques are being developed all the time. DuBose Custom Homes can help you through the wide array of options. Choices like low/no-VOC paint and polyurethane, Energy Star rated appliances, instant hot water systems, formaldehyde-free materials, solar panels, and air quality systems are some of the multitude of green features available to choose from.
